Caring for Your deGiotto Bondage Rope
Cleaning rope:
Wash your bondage ropes ONLY When Dirty with blood, cum, urine or BO. Otherwise, just let them air out.

Hemp:
  • Wash in the washing machine
  • Put rope in lingerie bag
  • Delicate cycle
  • Cold water
  • 1/2 tsp free and clear detergent
Jute:
  • We don't recommend washing your jute.
  • The fibers are delicate especially when wet
  • Jute has antimicrobial properties that will kill most germs
Bamboo silk:
  • Wash by hand in sink
  • Cold water
  • 1/2 tsp free and clear detergent
  • Do not overly agitate, squeeze or wring the ropes. The fibers are delicate when wet.
Drying rope:

Let the rope hang in loose coils until completely dry. Depending on the climate, this could take several days. Make sure the rope is completely dry before oiling, storing or using.

Stretching rope:
It is important that after washing rope and drying rope that you stretch it to reset the lay and make it even.

Hemp:
  • Tie one end to a firm object (a fixed swivel is ideal).
  • Pinch the rope loosely between your fingers
  • Walk the rope out straight while keeping pressure with the fingers
  • This takes any extra twists out the end of the rope.
  • Grab the loose end of the rope firmly
  • Slowly pull the rope taut
  • Pull the rope one full stride past taut
  • Slowly let the rope return to the length it desires.

Bamboo silk:
  • Tie one end to a firm object or ask a friend to hold onto it
  • Pinch the rope loosely between your fingers
  • Walk the rope out straight while keeping light pressure with the fingers.
  • This takes any extra twists out the end of the rope.
  • Grab the loose end of the rope firmly
  • Slowly pull the rope taut
  • Slowly let the rope return to the length it desires.

Oiling rope:
The fibers in hemp and jute bondage ropes can become brittle after time and after washing. The fibers rely on oil to keep them moist and pliable. When your rope starts making dust as you tie or every time after washing, it's time to condition it.

Hemp: We recommend deGiotto Rope Oil or deGiotto Rigger and Rope Lotion. Each of these is custom formulated to compliment hemp.

Jute: We recommend deGiotto Rope Wax. You can also use deGiotto Rope Oil or deGiotto Rigger and Rope Lotion.

Over oiling of your ropes can cause them to feel heavy and sluggish and it is difficult to get the excess oil out without washing the rope again. A little oil goes a long way. You will apply just a bit of oil to the surface of the rope. The capillary action of the fibers will pull the oil into the rope.

deGiotto Rope Oil
  • DO NOT spray the oil directly on the rope!
  • With one end of the rope still fixed to a firm object, from the stretching process;
  • Spray a spritz or two of oil onto an old washcloth
  • Grasp the rope with the washcloth and walk toward the free end of the rope while maintaining light pressure
  • Walk for 10 steps
  • Remove the washcloth from the rope and spray the cloth again
  • DO NOT spray the oil directly on the rope!
  • Repeat

Keep the washcloth in a zip lock baggie until needed again.

deGiotto Rigger and Rope Lotion
  • Put a dab of lotion on your hands and tie with your rope as you normally would.
  • Add a dab on your hand for each rope.
  • You can also put a drop on your palm and pull the rope through your hand.
deGiotto Rope Wax
  • Pull the rope across the block of wax.
  • Coat lightly at first, you can always add more later
  • Place rope in oven at 300 degrees for 10 minute to allow the wax to soak into the fibers

Bamboo silk:
Do NOT oil or lotion your bamboo silk directly. If it is feeling dusty or brittle, lotion your hands with deGiotto Rigger and Rope Lotion then lightly pull the rope through your hands.
